We work on both sides of the river, which means keeping track of two completely different regulatory worlds. Missouri licenses no siding contractors and no window installers at all — 42 state licensing boards and the only construction trade among them is electrical. Illinois licenses roofers and nothing else in the exterior trades. So on this work, in this metro, there is no state licence for anyone to hold or for you to check.
What that leaves is municipal registration, which changes at every city limit, and the one federal credential that genuinely is required: EPA lead-safe firm certification, which applies to both of our trades on any house built before 1978. On a metro where 58.8% of the housing predates 1980, that is the certification worth asking any contractor about, including us.
